Portfolio Types offered by HC
Equity Portfolio: A portfolio that invests most of its assets in stocks of publicly traded companies. The portfolio earns returns from investing in stocks in the form of capital gains (the difference between buying and selling of these stocks) as well as dividends distributed by the invested companies. The objective of an equity portfolio is long term growth through capital appreciation.
Fixed-Income Portfolio: A portfolio that invests primarily in bonds and other debt instruments. The exact type of debt the portfolio invests in will depend on agreed on strategy, but investments may include government, corporate, municipal and convertible bonds along with other debt securities. The objective of the portfolio is to generate income.
Money Market Portfolio: A portfolio that invests primarily in short-term debt obligations such as Treasury Bills, Certificates of Deposits and Commercial Papers. Money market portfolios are generally less risky than either equity portfolios or fixed-income portfolios.
Balanced Portfolio: A portfolio that combines a stock component, a bond component and, sometimes a money market component in one single portfolio. The objective of a balanced portfolio is to provide both income and capital appreciation. A balanced portfolio is also known as Hybrid portfolio.
Islamic Portfolio (Ethical Portfolio): A portfolio that invests most of its assets in stocks of publicly traded companies that comply with principles of Islamic Shariah. The portfolio earns returns from investing in stocks in the form of capital gains as well as dividends distributed by the invested companies. The objective of an Islamic equity portfolio is long term growth through capital appreciation.
Index Portfolio: A portfolio that replicates the movements of an index of a specific financial market. Tracking can be achieved by trying to hold all of the securities in the index, and in the same proportions as in the index. Index portfolios can be either equity portfolios or fixed-income ones.
